Coveted Models from Independent Brands Feature in the Latest Pre-Owned Watch Offerings at Stephen Silver
We are all too keenly aware that the extremely limited production at the independent watch companies in which we have long specialized has made acquiring one of these timepieces more difficult than it has been in the past. But thanks to diligent sourcing, Stephen Silver is proud to offer an enhanced selection of pre-owned timepieces to begin your exploration of this part of the craft, or to fill out your existing collection. In this latest tranche of independent watches, we have concentrated on brands that have never been offered as new products in our store. As you will find, these are not watches from several seasons ago, but highly current product representing the latest direction at these brands.
H. Moser is a company we have long admired both for their technical proficiency and the increasingly vibrant and forward-looking design. These qualities are perfectly represented in the Streamliner model, one of the most original and modern-looking integrated bracelet sports watches introduced in the last decade. Our Streamliner Tourbillon Rainbow Vantablack was introduced in 2022 and may be the boldest of the lot. The graduated colored sapphires definitely comprise the most eye-catching bezel in watchmaking, and they could not be set off in a more dramatic fashion by the Vantablack coating on the dial, which absorbs more light than any other black treatment. This is a solar eclipse, set in an ultrachic red gold case.
While the style of the Arabic numerals and the welded lugs suggest a watch H Moser might have manufactured in the early 20th century, the brand’s brilliant touch with coloration makes this a piece that is thoroughly up to date. The burgundy dial, set off with Moser’s signature “fumé” gradient around the periphery, could not be a richer color. The watch has been paired with an electric violet crocodile strap. It is an impeccably composed palate with a subtle second time zone indicator that will be equally at home from vacation spot to wine cave.
Although less than a decade old, independent Swiss brand Czapek & Cie. has already created a distinctive identity for itself with an innovative combination of classical watchmaking elements. Observe the components of the Place Vendome Tourbillon Suspendu & "Ici Et Ailleurs": dial in Grand Feu enamel; meticulously finished second timezone display with separate day/night indicator; classically constructed sixty second tourbillon. Each of these is a horological feature on their own, but together they make a balanced and very practical travel watch that commands attention for its quality.
Originally released in 2021, the Antarctique Rattrapante is a technical fascination. The idea is straightforward: tome the rattrapante, or split-seconds chronograph complication from the rear of the watch to the front, where it can be admired through an open-works dial. To do this Czapek enlisted its regular complication collaborator Chronode (run by Jean-Francois Mojon). Using select parts from a Valjoux caliber, along with a multitude of specially conceived components, Mojon completed a mono pusher split-seconds movement, the action of which, including the function of the dual column wheels can all be seen while on the wrist. The back of the watch has been freed to accommodate an automatic winding rotor, an unusual addition to this type of watch.
Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split-Seconds Chronograph in Platinum
One of just twenty-five pieces, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split-Seconds Chronograph was launched in 2021 to commemorate the brand’s 25th anniversary. It combines the now- widely hailed bracelet Tonda PF case design with the brand’s split-seconds chronograph movement, which was introduced 5 years previously for the brand’s 20th anniversary. This is an understated timepiece with its tone-on-tone coloration on subtle detailing. Nevertheless it is a watchmaking tour-de-force. The original and integrated (no use of modules) 5 hz chronograph movement was a heavy lift for a small brand but has proven its quality since release. The upper lattice-like bridgework in rose gold, newly redesigned for better visibility, is a hand finishing statement with rounds and interior angles that are impossible to execute by machine. For a collector interested in a superlative statement of quality, this watch will be hard to ignore.
Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Skeleton in Rose Gold
Parmigiani Fleurier owes much of its newfound momentum to the success of its new integrated bracelet sports watch, the Tonda PF. Like many brands before it, Parmigiani has sought to invest the model with a little horological gravitas by revealing some of the watch’s technical qualities from beneath the dial. The Tonda PF Skeleton walks a fine line between traditional skeletonization, which can create a frilly and delicate look, and open works design, which often entails wholesale and expensive modification of the movement. The brand selected a careful modification and hand-finishing of the baseplate of its renown and slender PF777 micro rotor movement, which emphasized sweeping curves reminiscent of traditional bridgework. With grey-on-grey tones contrasting with the rose gold case, the watch presents a highly modern, technical character.
Daytona, Artisans de Genève Mika Häkkinen Challenge
As many collectors are aware, there is no shortage of companies that perform aftermarket modifications of Rolex watches. None of them, however, compare to the work done by Artisans de Geneve. The workshop’s attention to detail is evident in the customization of a Rolex Daytona made to the specifications of Formula 1 driver Mika Häkkinen. Beginning with the 116520 reference in stainless steel, a grade 5 titanium bezel with an anthracite treated surface was substituted. The dial was skeletonized and sandblasted, coated anthracite treatment and decorated with a blue and orange color scheme. Special pushers and an extra flat casebook have been added.

MB&F Continues its Decade-Long Race to Perfect the Automotive-Inspired Luxury Watch
Unconventional design is one of our favorite aspects of the independent watch lineup we have carefully curated at Stephen Silver. And of all our brands, MB&F is the undisputed master of this kind of creativity.
We’d like to offer you a closer look at the independent Swiss watchmaker’s just-released horological marvel, the HM8 Mark 2. The timepiece follows the brand’s decades-long quest to fuse high-octane automotive inspiration and high-performance horology and is in fact, the fourth such watch the brand has created.
All the brand’s watches bear the personal stamp of founder Maximillian Büsser, and it’s no wonder so much energy has been devoted to automotive themes. As a youngster, Max dreamed of becoming a car designer, but while this particular ambition never came to pass, he has made up for it with his watches. The brand’s new HM8 Mark 2 once again draws on Büsser’s appreciation for automotive lines to inspire a wholly modern three-dimensional timepiece.
Race Ready
The exterior of the HM8 Mark 2 showcases the same meticulous craftsmanship of its inner workings. Rather than the monobloc chassis employed for the HMX and HM8, HM8 Mark 2 features a water- resistant chassis to which the body panels of the watch are affixed.
The robust Grade 5 titanium chassis has been crafted in CarbonMacrolon® body panels in a choice of white or British racing green CarbonMacrolon® with matte finishes on top and high polished sides. The British racing green version (limited to just 33 pieces) boasts a red gold rotor and balance wheel with turquoise minute markers, while the white version features a green CVD rotor and light green minute markers.
CarbonMacrolon® is a super-strong, highly rigid new composite material designed specifically for MB&F, composed of a polymer matrix injected with carbon nanotubes. Carbon nanotubes offer superior tensile strength and stiffness than that found with traditional carbon fiber reinforcing, and this ultra-hard, super- strong materials offers endless design applications and finishes – while weighing eight times less than steel.
Milling and processing super-strong materials-CarbonMacrolon® and titanium- presented the MB&F team with the ultimate challenge, as did the creation of the double-curved sapphire crystal and the 22-karat gold battle axe rotor blades.
Designed for the Driver
The unique prism display concept common to all MB&F’s car-themed watches draws inspiration from an obscure 1970s era watch by Amida, the Amida Digitrend, which resembled an old-fashioned speedometer and allowed a vertical time reading specifically designed with car drivers in mind. While the Amida’s display discs lay parallel, the new HM’s discs lie atop one another. MB&F achieves the vertical reading by means of a clever prism that emphasizes the dials’ size and legibility.
The disks of the HM 8 Mark 2 are coated in black “metallization” – leaving the striking numerals clear, essentially carving their forms out of negative space. To impart an effect akin to a digital or electronic display, the discs are treated with Super-LumiNova® on the underside to render them completely flat – not bulbous as with most luminous surface treatments. The numerals were created back to front in reverse to render properly through the prism. Light filtering through opening and closing slats dictates the level of luminescence: a feature that recalls Marcello Gandini’s louver design for the Bertone Lamborghini Miura.
Under the Hood
At the heart of the HM8 Mark 2 beats a three-dimensional horological that features a jumping hour and trailing minutes module developed in-house and powered by a Girard-Perregaux base movement. With 247 meticulously crafted components and 30 jewels, this mechanical masterpiece offers a power reserve of 42 hours and operates at a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour.
Here, MB&F returns to the HM8 ‘Can-Am’ concept’s sapphire crystal views of its spinning rotor. This movement also provides the base for the brand-new HM8 Mark 2. In the case of the HM8 Mark 2, MB&F moves away from Can-Am car in favor of new inspirations – with its body modeled after the iconic Porsche 918 Spyder and its sapphire crystal recalling the Zagato double bubble.
Double De-Clutch
MB&F also draws on the automotive world to inspire the name of its groundbreaking new “double de- clutch” crown system. The crown is released by pushing it in and turning it three-quarters of a turn. This innovation offers twin benefits to sports watch fans who appreciate additional space and improved security.
As Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area’s destination for the most coveted luxury timepieces from leading independent watchmakers and heritage brands, Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry is proud to be a long-time MB&F brand partner and authorized MB&F retailer.
We invite you to discover the creative artistry and craftsmanship that make these MB&F timepieces so highly coveted by the world’s leading collectors.

When a renowned heritage watchmaker and a hyper creative independent watch brand collaborate, the result is one of the most coveted vintage revival watches of recent years. Angelus and Massena LAB have partnered to present the new Angelus and Massena LAB Chronographe Médical, a classic Angelus medical tool watch revived for a new era and coming soon to Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry in Menlo Park. The new timepiece also marks the first product entry into Angelus’ new La Fabrique collection, dedicated reissued editions of iconic vintage Angelus models.
A Classic Vintage Chronograph Revived
Angelus remains one of the most beloved brands in vintage watch collecting circles. Pre-owned Angelus chronographs like the iconic Chronodato often command princely sums. The modern Angelus Swiss brand, revived in 2015, leaned into its legacy of innovation to present a contemporary range of athletically inspired, openwork tourbillon timepieces crafted with tech-forward materials and finishes. Only in the last few years has the modern Angelus brand begun to revisit its storied chronograph heritage with the new Angelus Chronodate, and now, the new Angelus Chronographe Médical x Massena LAB watch.
In the 1960s, Angelus introduced its renowned "doctor's watch" a manually wound chronograph with a distinctive dial. This timepiece featured dual scales—an asthmometer to record respiratory rates and a pulsometer to measure a patient's pulse. The Angelus Chronographe Medical x Massena Lab limited edition timepiece, limited to 99 pieces, serves as a contemporary reinterpretation of this rare watch that caters to modern tastes while preserving its distinctive functional essence.
Massena LAB, founded by William Massena, has issued several highly sought timepieces in recent years with the likes of Louis Erard, H. Moser, and now, Angelus. Angelus CEO Bertrand Savary and his team collaborated closely with Massena to revive one of the most remarkable tool chronographs of the 1960s.
Exquisite Design and Functionality
The Angelus Chronographe Médical x Massena LAB watch features several notable updates while maintaining the vintage character of its predecessor. The 39mm stainless steel case (a slight increase from its smaller vintage size), has been crafted with the precision befitting a doctor's watch. It houses the Angelus A5000 caliber movement, easily admired via an exhibition case back. Like its vintage predecessor, the modern re-edition is manually wound. Its chronograph pusher has been moved from the crown to two o’clock.
Unique Medical Functionality
True to its medical chronograph roots, this timepiece boasts two scales—the pulsometer and asthmometer—positioned prominently on the dial. The pulsometer, located between 1 and 3 o'clock, allows doctors to quickly determine a patient's heart rate. The asthmometer measures respiratory rates, with both scales presented in a visually clear and legible manner.
To measure heartbeats per minute, the chronograph is activated and the wearer counts to ten heartbeats, then stops the chronograph. The chronograph hand will then point to the correct reading along the pulsometer scale. The scale is color coded: green showing a positive reading, black being neutral, while red indicating a negative outcome.
To calculate breaths per minute, the asthmometer scale works in much the same way as the pulsometer scale. The chronograph is activated, then the wearer counts five breaths, and stops the chronograph to locate the reading. This scale is red to distinguish it from the minutes track.
Unmatched Dial Design
The dial of the Chronographe Médical is a study in refined craftsmanship. The silvered opaline dial offers readings of the hours, minutes, and small seconds, with medical decals rendered in black, green, and red. For all its seeming complexity, the dial has been deftly rendered with cool and spare minimalism– from its Rhodium-finish appliqué indexes and Arabic numerals to its green-emitting Super-LumiNova hour markers - providing exceptional legibility in any lighting condition.
Superior Craftsmanship and Details
Every aspect of this limited-edition timepiece is meticulously crafted. The flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating ensures optimal clarity, while the 30-meter water resistance is a welcome, practical consideration. The golden brown Novonappa® calfskin strap, adorned with hand-stitched ecru stitching, lends a touch of sophistication. The stainless-steel pin buckle ensures a secure and comfortable fit on the wrist.
Limited Edition Exclusivity
Limited to just 99 pieces worldwide, the ANGELUS CHRONOGRAPHE MÉDICAL X MASSENA LAB represents a rare and coveted addition to any watch collection- particularly for those in the medical profession or lovers of unique tool watches.
With this highly limited availability, it is strongly suggested that interested buyers contact the Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry team for more information or to join our waitlist. Visit our boutique in Menlo Park, California, to discover other Angelus Swiss timepieces.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Menlo Park, CA (March 3, 2023) – Stephen and Jared Silver, principals of Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry, are opening Silicon Valley’s most significant new luxury retail and dining destination in Fall of 2023. In a prime location near downtown Menlo Park, CA, the ultra-luxurious 35,000+ square foot development, known as Middle Plaza, marks a significant evolution for the region’s luxury experiences and is the first upscale development of its size and scope. The Middle Plaza development creates a centralized shopping and dining destination in the SF Bay Area, complete with world-class boutiques, Michelin-star award winning chefs, and spaces designed by acclaimed designers.
Stephen and Jared Silver and the late visionary real estate mogul John Arrillaga Sr. set out to radically evolve the local community by creating a new cultural hub showcasing high-end shopping, dining, and art in the heart of world-leading technology companies and venture capital firms.
Although this $100+ million development is called "Middle Plaza", the zip codes the new development serves are anything but middle-of-the-road, and consistently rank among the nation’s most affluent. According to NBC Bay Area KNTV Channel 11, almost half the USA’s 100 most expensive zip codes are located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
“In 2018, John (Arrillaga), Jared, and I agreed that the Middle Plaza development should answer the local community’s need for a new gathering space and destination that remains locally grounded yet rivals the world’s great shopping cities,” says Stephen Silver, CEO and Chairman of Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry.
“Middle Plaza marks the next chapter in the evolution and growth of Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry,” says Jared Silver, “and, with the help of our brand and local project partners, we will create a new standard of experiential luxury retail and dining in the Bay Area.”
To help him manifest the vision, Jared Silver recruited iconic Bay Area-based interior architect Jon de la Cruz to design uniquely different experiences on each floor of the three-story development. The ground floor will host six to seven mono-brand boutiques: one dedicated to Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry and others to partners including a new BVLGARI boutique concept, and a number of Switzerland’s most exotic watchmakers including MB&F, H. Moser & Cie, Roger Dubuis, and additional brands to be announced shortly.
The second floor will host a ~4,000+ square foot indoor-outdoor apartment-lounge styled showroom featuring a world- class selection of watch and jewelry partners including MESSIKA, Hermes, Urwerk, Greubel Forsey, Laurent Ferrier, Bovet, Ressence, Louis Erard, Arnold & Son, and many more. The third-floor penthouse level of this grand townhouse- style building will host Stephen Silver’s high jewelry salon and their new corporate headquarters.
Middle Plaza will also be home to multiple dining experiences, including restaurateur Ayesha Thapar’s newest culinary experience, called Eylan, a highly anticipated encore to her Michelin-acclaimed Cal-Indian fusion Palo Alto-based restaurant named Ettan.
Previous Mayor and current City Council Member of Menlo Park, Betsy Nash, states, “The City of Menlo Park is looking forward to the opening of Middle Plaza. Its new residents, offices, retailers such as Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry, and Ayesha Tharpar’s new Indian restaurant, will be exciting additions and a new center of vitality in our town.”
Stephen and Jared Silver - Onysko Photography
Ayesha Thapar: “We are excited to bring our new restaurant concept to life in Middle Plaza, that promises to become a landmark destination for the community. El Camino is going through a complete revival with developments like this infusing a vibrance to Menlo Park with new and exciting dining and retail options.”
Jon de la Cruz: "The spaces where you shop and dine should be as luxurious as the goods you purchase and the food you eat. Working with the Silvers to create this environment brings a new aesthetic to shopping in Menlo Park. As a San Francisco native, we worked to make sure the identity of the Bay Area compliments this new upscale retail space, making it both luxurious and local."
This once-in-a-lifetime project, set to open in fourth quarter of 2023, represents only the latest milestone in the growth of the family-owned company, helmed by Stephen and Jared Silver. Stephen has been a driving force in the jewelry world for over 45 years, acquiring, selling, manufacturing, and trading in some of the rarest and most precious jewelry and gemstones. Jared Silver, President of the company, led the opening of its retail division in 2014 and quickly positioned Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry as one of the world’s leading retailers of high-end independent watches and fine jewelry.

Ever since we launched our timepiece salon, Stephen and Jared Silver have carefully curated an unparalleled assortment of innovative timepieces. From prominent independent watchmakers like Louis Erard to heritage brands like BVLGARI and Arnold & Son, here are a few of the latest horological novelties newly arrived or coming to the Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry boutique at Rosewood Sand Hill in Menlo Park, California.
Some of our favorite incarnations of Bulgari’s famously thin Octo Finissimo line of watches are the new brown on gold colorways that have been recently introduced. These watches exude a warm, elegant style, while the weight of gold presents an interesting contrast to the pared-down design of the watch. It is eminently wearable.
Most notable in our cases is a special edition for the American market: an automatic in yellow gold on a bracelet. Like the original in titanium, the gold bracelet is composed of finely crafted angular links that give it a suppleness as well as a bold design flavor. A brushed finish gives the piece a nicely muted touch of elegance.
Bulgari will now create these bracelets for existing models upon request, so if you fancy the rose gold chronograph on a strap we have in stock, you can complete the look with a matching bracelet.
One of our most recent new arrivals is Arnold & Son’s Nebula, recently released in rose gold with a variety of anthracite grey coatings to enhance the sense of depth on its open worked movement. This particular model shows off the incredible dexterity with movement architecture of which the brand is capable. Viewed from the dial side, multiple inward-facing bridges hold the various components in place, giving the impression of a starburst. The major components, including balance wheel, subsidiary seconds assembly, gear train and twin barrels are also symmetrically placed, and can be admired to a greater degree from the rear side.
While the visual effect is stunning, Nebula is about far more than aesthetics. The ability to freely position components, or mount them from singly supported bridges betrays the long experience at Arnold & Son’s headquarters, which has been building movements for decades. Architectural freedom is only possible when the manufacture has complete confidence in the reliability and consistency of its constructions—a quality Arnold & Son apparently has in spades.
If you are considering adding a flourish of color to your wardrobe this spring, may we suggest one of these striking examples of the La Petite Seconde collection from Louis Erard? These watches pair a matching dial and strap combination in midnight blue, a deep violet and ice blue. The company has gone to great lengths to ensure deep, lustrous colors on its dials, which is a specialty art in watchmaking. The 39 mm case of La Petite Seconde is perfectly proportioned and is equipped with an automatic movement.
Look for more wristwatch updates from Stephen Silver as we look to the spring Watches and Wonders Geneva event, which has become a pivotal global launchpad for leading watch brands and independent watchmakers like MB&F, Urwerk, Angelus, and more to reveal their latest crop of new timepieces.
Many of the new horological designs are coming soon to Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry in Silicon Valley – and some are already available for hands-on experiences.

The unveiling of Rémi Maillat’s stunning “Everywhere” watch in 2017 was one of those rare and exquisite moments in watchmaking: the emergence of a major new talent. Maillat, an engineer with a gift for translating mathematical equations into mechanical parts, had reconceived the traditional sunrise/sunset complication, making it—for the first time ever—adjustable, and operable through the crown. In just a few short years Maillat and his company Krayon has captured prizes and acclaim, and beginning this month, will offer their creations at Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry.
Everywhere is a highly complicated wristwatch, with nearly 600 components that enable the wearer to dial in his latitude and longitude, GMT time, local time and date—all the elements needed to calculate sunrise and sunset times. As a follow up to this magnum opus, Krayon has released “Anywhere,” a simpler, more graphic version of the complication that is set by a watchmaker to a specific location, but based on a similar mechanism. Anywhere showcases Krayon’s other outstanding quality, its deft hand with aesthetics. Sunrise and sunset times on Anywhere are presented by moveable discs on the periphery of the dial and a moving sun, creating a day/night indicator that changes with the seasons. Differing colors and treatments, including dials decorated with artistic handcrafts have opened realms of aesthetic possibilities for this model, which is now the mainstay of the brand.
Anywhere also boasts a highly finished movement, which places the innovative system of yokes and racks at center stage. Traditionally, sunrise and sunset times are calculated with a cam that must be specifically manufactured for a fixed location. Maillat’s system is movable, and even on the Anywhere model, can be altered by a Krayon watchmaker for a new location.
As a new, small independent manufacturer, Krayon’s production is highly limited, and interested collectors should be prepared to wait several months while their watch is being built.
Prototypes will be on display at the Stephen Silver boutique in Menlo Park, California, and we encourage you to come in to discuss the possibilities. Contact us for more details.

There is only one name to consider in Swiss clocks, that of L’Epée 1839, Switzerland’s oldest and most luxurious clockmaker. Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry was among the first retailers in the United States to carry L’Epée 1839, and the manufacture has since grown to become a significant player in our roster of independent horology brands.
Long renowned for its refined complications and uncompromising quality, the clockmaker has in recent years branched out from its traditional clock offerings to embrace unorthodox new forms and daring collaborations, notably with Max Büsser, founder of MB&F.
Büsser’s longstanding interest in the creation of horological objets led him to collaborate with L’Epée 1839 in the early 2010s, and in 2014, the companies released the Starfleet Machine. This wildly designed clock, with a horizontal movement, a conical rotating time display, and prominently curved legs. In aesthetic terms, it seemed poles apart from anything L’Epée had previously built. The startlingly modern Starfleet Machine prominently displayed L’Epée 1839’s traditional qualities of precision and ultra-high finishing inside its open architecture.
A remarkable string of collaborations between the brands followed and has extended until the present, including Melchior, the Sherman, the Medusa, Destination Moon, Octopod, and the T-Rex, among others. Each underlines the truth that clocks can transcend their traditional timekeeping function as design-centric talking pieces that reflect modern lifestyles and modern artistic sensibilities.
L’Epée 1839 continued the house’s renaissance with other daring clock designs, examples of which are now proudly featured at the Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry boutique and timepiece salon at Rosewood Sand Hill. Time Fast, one of the brand’s more recent such creations, debuted in 2019 as the amalgamation of a clock in the body of 1960’s era race car. The clockwork also drives a moving drivetrain.
The clockmaker’s collaborations have also continued in recent years with Pistol and Golden Boy, created in combination with Unnamed Society, and each adaption of clocks in the forms of famous firearms. Vanitas takes the form of a Dia de los Muertos skull as famously interpreted by independent watchmaker Fiona Kruger. Each of these L’Epée 1839 clocks from Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry is a worthy living room centerpiece, or a dream gift that redefines what a clock can be.

Stephen Silver Unearths Estate Jewelry Treasures
“We have always helped our clients maintain and steward their jewelry collections for the long haul, even across generations,” says Jared Silver, president of Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry.
Complimentary Fine Jewelry Evaluations in Silicon Valley
Helping our clients steward their collections can entail buying or accepting jewelry items in trade, while others commission our family-owned company’s artisans to restyle their pieces into bespoke new jewelry designs. For our experts, every piece tells a story. “Sometimes knowing the context and provenance of a piece can radically change the valuation,” says Jared Silver.
Whether we are evaluating gifted, inherited, aged, or broken items that no longer hold sentimental value, our company’s complimentary, fair market assessments allow clients to make the most informed decision.
Estate Jewelry Shopping: A Sustainable Choice
In addition, estate jewelry acquisitions from our clients offer a pipeline for our artisans to recycle precious resources and restore priceless pieces for resale, and in turn, service growing demand from a new wave of young collectors in the SF Bay area and beyond who are interested in premium secondhand jewelry.
Our Silicon Valley based company’s current preowned offerings include signed masterpieces from renowned makers like Tiffany & Co., Cartier, JAR, and J.E. Caldwell, contemporary preowned styles from Stephen Webster, Oscar Heyman, Robert Demeglio, prime examples of Art Deco era jewelry, and more.
For any would-be antique jewelry shoppers, Stephen Silver, C.E.O. of Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry, advises that transparency is key. “Make sure you are dealing with a reputable, experienced dealer, and consider items with extensive supporting documentation and appraisals where possible.”

Swiss independent watchmaking is a community that is both diverse and interconnected—two qualities that led us to one of our latest additions, Cyrus watches. Seeing them for the first time in our cases, you will immediately be struck by their bold design, typified by the cushion-shaped Klepcys case, which often features open works dial formats and a wide range of complications.
Cyrus is a young brand, having been founded in 2010 by Swiss brothers Julien and Laurent Lecamp, with financial backing of the Richard family, which took over full ownership in 2014. The name refers to the ancient Persian king Cyrus the Great. A rare coin minted during his reign is a prized family heirloom of the owners.
Perhaps an even more savvy investment for the brand’s owners was a stake in Chronode, the specialty watchmaking facility founded by Jean-François Mojon, one of the true technical luminaries in the watch industry. (Our collectors may remember Mojon for his work on the movements for MB&F’s groundbreaking LM1 and LM2 watches.) Cyrus’ close connection with Chronode allows Mojon to function as technical director for the brand, and gives Cyrus access to its own design, prototyping and manufacturing capabilities—an extremely enviable position for an independent brand.
Watches like the Klepcys Alarm show the full potential of Cyrus’ expanding technical capacity. Utilizing part of a minute repeater mechanism (partially visible through the dial, this timepiece fuses old-world horological charm with a profoundly modern functionality—an adjustable alarm—and houses it in a cutting edge design executed in black-coated steel and titanium. The same modern energy permeates the rest of the Cyrus collection, and with Mojon and his technical wizardry onboard, we can expect much more in the days to come.

“Our new pre-owned watch division may be the most exciting addition to our boutique since we started in the watch business,” says Jared Silver, “We have purposefully curated our offering to be as extraordinary as our jewelry and independent watch brands.” Over the last few years, pre-owned watches have become increasingly important to a growing slice of the watch collector community. As more of these aficionados turn their attention to specific models from specific brands, their desires are likely to be met as much by watches already in the market as the latest novelties of the year. The Silvers have responded by combing both the global market as well as the vaults of local collectors to find watches that not only represent what is most desirable, but that also possess special qualities that put them on a higher level.
“Our inventory is quite varied,” offers Max Sotodeh, Stephen Silver’s director of retail. “Some of these watches come from brands we carry, like Urwerk and Laurent Ferrier. New pieces from these brands have become very hard to get and sometimes are sold before they make it into the case. Other pre-owned pieces come from a much wider variety of brands, which make exciting additions to our offering.”
Curating an attractive assortment of pre-owned timepieces that fit into the boutique’s orientation toward independent timepieces is very much an art. Naturally space has been made for some of the most coveted models in today’s watchmaking universe including Patek Philippe’s Aquanaut and the Royal Oak by Audemars Piguet. Other pieces have been included for special qualities that make them especially remarkable and collectible.
“We currently have an Omega Ploprof, a legendary diving watch that is now recognized as one of the high-points of late-1960s watch design,” adds Jared Silver. “We also have a pair of early Roger Dubuis Hommage models. Many watches like these have attracted followings from the collector community that actively pursue them.”
Among the more recently made pieces are watches that made a sensation for their design when launched. A ceramic pocket watch from Panerai presents an open-worked movement with a tourbillon spinning on a horizontal axis. An example of the highly limited Bugatti Supersport collection from Parmigiani Fleurier mounts the movement and dial at 90 degrees through a conical gear transmission. Boxes and papers for each watch may be available on a case-by-case basis.
“Having an active pre-owned department has added so much to our watch business,” says Jared Silver. “In today’s market, pre-owned is often the only realistic way to buy into certain brands. Other clients like the assurance of real-market valuations or the chance to buy a more important watch for the money. As a store operator, I love the opportunity to offer all these options to our clients and to have so many different, fascinating pieces available.”

]]>For over 40 years, Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry experts have traveled the world to source the finest gemstones and jewelry. Our commitment to offering only the rarest, most precious pieces has never wavered, and few contemporary jewelry brands in the marketplace rival the quality of the great estate jewelry and the original jewelry designs crafted in-house in Silicon Valley by Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry’s own skilled artisan.
Every so often, however, the Silvers discover truly special jewelry collections from gifted designers who share their ethos and commitment to excellence. A brand must be truly remarkable to introduce it to Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry’s discerning collectors, and Amrapali London is just such a Maison.
Amrapali is one of India’s most storied jewelry houses, rooted in Jaipur–one of the world’s great gemstone hubs. Rajiv Arora and Rajesh Ajmera first envisioned the Amrapali jewellery brand almost 50 years ago as a celebration of centuries’ old Indian jewelry making traditions.
The house’s bright Meenakari enamel work, uncut colored gemstones, and flattering rose-cut and polki diamonds–hallmarks of traditional Eastern jewels – soon won Amrapali a dedicated following across the world, and the jewelry has been spotted on red-carpets from Bollywood to Hollywood.
Amrapali London is an extension of this storied jewelry maison, with an eye on East and West, distilling the colorful spirit and history of Amrapali to create contemporary luxury jewels with an Eastern DNA.
Join Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry for a limited showing of the Amrapali London collections and discover the evocative enamels and richly hued gemstones in person. The colorful luxury jewelry brand with an Eastern spirit will come to the Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry boutique at Rosewood Sand Hill for a limited showcase, June 1-5.
Contact boutique@shsilver.com to secure a private showing of Amrapali London jewelry from June 1-5 at our Rosewood Sand Hill boutique or to find out more details about an upcoming Amrapali London private reception.

Bulgari’s aplomb in ultra-thin watchmaking is a fact that is now well known to most watch collectors. Its Octo Finissimo line of watches has blossomed since 2014, with each new introduction seemingly punctuated by a world record for thinnest watch in each of the various categories.
Now, for the first time in the United States, Bulgari’s eight world record setting watches will be on display at Stephen Silver’s Rosewood Sand Hill boutique during the last two weeks of May, 2022. Visitors will get a chance to see the company’s latest achievement, the Octo Finissimo Ultra—the thinnest mechanical watch ever created—for the very first time.
Bulgari launched its Octo Finissimo watch line with a world record, that for the thinnest tourbillon wristwatch ever built, and followed it up in succeeding years with records for minute repeater, automatic watch, automatic tourbillon, chronograph, automatic tourbillon chronograph and perpetual calendar. Its latest Octo Finissimo Ultra mounts the movement on the case back and measures a mind-boggling 1.8 millimeters thin overall.
Ultra-thin watchmaking is much more than mere bragging rights. The effort to produce movements as thin as possible has been a goal of watchmakers since the time of Abraham-Louis Breguet. Thinner cases lead to an elegance of form with the proper design, but the technical requirements needed to get there can be exacting. Extra time and ingenuity in movement design are required as are care in assembly to see that delicate components are not bent under load.
These concerns compound exponentially as dimensions shrink to those pursued by Bulgari. It is small wonder that many watchmakers consider ultra-thin watchmaking to be a complication in its own right. Bulgari has managed to master this art along with housing the movements in one of its most successful and distinctive designs, as well as offering them at very reasonable prices.
The SF Bay area Bulgari World Record timepiece exhibition will run from mid-to-late May of 2022 and will only be on display for a limited time.

]]>The name Speake-Marin is not one that is generally familiar—unless you’re really into watches. Longtime dedicated collectors will probably not just know the name, but also know the watchmaker.
For years Englishman Peter Speake-Marin has been one of the most approachable watchmakers in Switzerland, partly because he is a rare English speaker in a Francophone craft, and partly because he’s a genuinely nice guy who is always at the ready to explain watchmaking to eager listeners.
The eponymous watch company he created 20 years ago has long been approachable as well, offering unique horological flavors at reasonable prices. Speak-Marin was well ahead of the curve in redeploying English design codes from the 19th century with modern Swiss movements.
While Peter Speake-Marin is no longer involved with the company—he gradually diluted his stake and officially left in 2017—the company continues its traditions of accessibility and uniqueness.
Speake-Marin is now majority-owned by the Rosnoblet family, whose wealth derives from ownership of a franchisee of the European Carre four markets. Christelle Rosnoblet, who has been active with the brand for the last ten years is now CEO.
A major part of her strategy for the brand is to pack in even more horological content. To do this, she has invested in an upcoming complicated watch specialty firm, Cercledes Horologers, and tapped them for the creation of a number of proprietary movements.
The One&Two collection, introduced in 2017, exemplifies the new Speake-Marin theory of watchmaking.
The design inspiration is clearly architectural, seen in the dynamic movement design that takes center stage in the brand’s openwork models.
Certain unconventionality can be seen in the placement of the seconds subdial at 1:30, a position few within watchmaking’s establishment would consider.
These watches have grown in complexity and visual depth as they have been refined in the last few years. The One&Two Openworked Dual Time is a prime example of the brand adding a function that fits within its unusual architecture.
Unconventionality and rarity are values we try to uphold at Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry and make Speake-Marin a natural fit for our collection of independent watchmakers.
With their singular appearance and attractive prices, they make a great selection either as a first delve into independent watchmaking or as a love-at-first-sight addition to your collection.
Contact us at boutique@shsilver.com for more information on Speake-Marin timepieces, available in the San Francisco Bay Area exclusively at Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry.
Just as there are countless ways to express your love, we believe couples need a variety of alternative engagement ring options to best express your personal style. As one of the world's leading jewelry houses and the SF Bay Area's premier colored gemstone and fancy diamond specialist, we have specialized in highly unique and colorful, one-of-a-kind fine jewelry designs for over 45 years. Our team excels at sourcing extremely rare and precious colored gemstones, which become the starts of some of the world's rarest and most precious fine jewelry creations.
Whether a colored gemstone design, a diamond Toi et Moi bypass ring, or a made-to-order special request, Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry is proud to be Silicon Valley's go-to expert for the highest quality alternative and colored gemstone engagement ring styles.
Historically, spinel has often been mistaken for ruby due to its rich, romantic red hue. Like ruby, spinel also ranks high on the Mohs scale, just below ruby with a hardness of eight. This makes spinel an ideal scratch-resistant alternative gemstone candidate for an engagement ring that will stand up to everyday wear.
Our one-of-a-kind ring features a deep red 2.85-carat oval-cut, unheated Mahenge spinel (GIA-certified), framed by 1.18 total carats of trillion cut diamonds (H-I color and SI1-SI2 clarity).
Radiant Cut Fancy Yellow Diamond Ring
The classic halo engagement ring makes a sunny statement with this original, house made design.
The ring leads with a stunning 5.33-carat radiant cut Fancy Yellow diamond (VS1 clarity), accented with 0.42 total carats of round brilliant cut diamonds framed by milgrain detailing.
Pink Sapphire and Diamond Ring
Pink sapphires make a pretty and practical choice for an alternative engagement ring due to the stone’s hardness and scratch resistance, second only to diamonds.
Handmade in-house and set in a premium platinum setting, this original Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry design offers an impressive 5.30-carat oval cut, heated pink sapphire flanked by two half-moon cut diamonds which weigh a total of 1.30 carats.
Emerald-Cut Diamond Bypass Ring
Toi et Moi rings bring together two different yet complementary gemstones. Like soulmates, the twin gems in this distinctive ring style offer a perfectly balanced symbol of everlasting marital love. From a practical standpoint, the open bypass style of a Toi et Moi engagement ring means that it will fit comfortably for years to come, with no resizing required.
This stunning handcrafted platinum bypass ring from Stephen Silver features two glittering emerald cut diamonds; a 3.00-carat L-M color, VS2 clarity diamond, and a 0.82-carat M-N color, VS1 clarity diamond, for a total of 3.82 carats of diamonds.
Fancy Intense Yellow Marquise Diamond Ring
We have turned the typical marquise setting on its axis with this east-west yellow diamond engagement ring.
The unique platinum engraved ring features a sunny 3.03-carat Fancy Intense Yellow color, VVS2 clarity marquise cut diamond (GIA-certified) set with 0.18 carats total of round brilliant cut diamonds (G-H color, VS-SI clarity).
Pink Padparadscha Sapphire Ring
Padparadscha sapphires evoke the colors of a tropical lotus flower with their characteristic pink and orange hues, and our pink Padparadscha ring features a
magnificent specimen of the rare gem.
This original Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry ring features a 5.25-carat emerald cut Ceylon Padparadscha sapphire specimen (AGL certified), its pink color enhanced by its 18 karat rose gold mounting. The movement itself in Greubel Forsey’s latest creation, the Double Balancier Convexe is not exactly new. But everything else about the watch is, and that is what is indeed revolutionary about the new timepiece. The look, detailing—the very mood of the watch—is reflective of a new design personality: younger, more active, and frankly, far sexier than before.
The case of the Double Balancier Convexe is an iteration of the massive redesign the brand unveiled with its GMT Sport model. The curved, modernist design maintains the brand’s impressive dimensions, but is far more form fitting and wearable. The polished bezel contrast subtly with areas of brushed and “frosted” metal, the latter being a tip of the hat to the antiquated decoration technique Greubel Forsey famously resurrected on many of its movements. The bracelet version (the watch is also available on a strap) shows this to maximum effect.
The concept behind the watch, the averaging of two separate timekeeping organs to produce a better chronometric result, has been around since the age of the Enlightenment. Greubel Forsey has been tinkering with the idea since at least 1999, giving the idea its own spin by angling the balance wheels to offset positional rate effects and employing a spherical differential to average the two balances. The idea was patented in 2007, with the first commercial model being unveiled in 2013.
While the movement components are much the same as they were in the original, Greubel Forsey has used the valuable experience gained during its journey to create the maximum visual effect in this timepiece. The hand finishing is layered with black coatings applied to bottom plates, graining on mid-level brass components and mirror polishing on the uppermost surfaces, an arrangement designed to produce the maximum perception of depth. It is a three-hand watch, but one which could easily occupy the center of any watch collection.
