Jewelry Appraisals

Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry offers insurance, estate planning, and liquidation appraisal services. Most insurance companies require a replacement cost appraisal prior to writing a policy. Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry's expert appraisers will conduct an extensive evaluation of your jewelry and produce a bound dossier for you to present to your attorney, insurance company or tax professional.

Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry's estate services include divorce, probate, donation, auction, antique, collateral, and casualty loss. Our expert appraisers will work with you through the estate planning process to produce a fair market value appraisal. Our Graduate Gemologists are available to appraise single items or entire collections.

The amethyst hero in this stunning neckpiece was part of a bangle bracelet purchased in an estate. I assume it had been reworked before it came to us. Often pieces are taken apart to salvage a beautiful central stone. As we were cutting apart the piece I thought it could be an interesting part of a design incorporating the woven leather snakes my friend, artist Eugene Lee, was working on. I gave him the piece to see what he could do. After having perfected his weaving, the Medusa necklace was born.

Repair, Restoration & Restyling

Repairing and restoring fine and estate jewelry is a highly specialized art form. Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry's world-renowned artisans possess the skills necessary to work on even the most intricate of pieces. Do you have a piece of jewelry that needs some repair? Perhaps it needs just a little bit of work to bring it back to life?

"There are so many ways to re-imagine a piece and still keep it intact," she says. "Grandma's Art Deco brooch that you never wear can become part of a leather cuff or be suspended from an attachment to make it work as a pendant. Or it becomes the clasp of a satin evening bag." For Inga, the possibilities are limitless. "It just takes some time to figure out the best solution for each client." If pieces aren't sentimental, their trade-in value can be assessed to help the decision making process.

The grey and brown diamonds in these stylish and decidedly modern dangle earrings came out of a bypass ring purchased from a private seller. They were first created in shiny platinum. However, when a client tried them on, Inga recalls, "We saw how the diamonds looked and we realized that they needed a more dramatic frame to highlight the color tones of the diamonds." The oxidized black metal became a dramatic counterpoint to the subtle fancy color diamonds. "Sometimes it takes a few iterations to get a design to work."

Custom Design

Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry's custom designs exemplify modern day luxury combined with old world elegance to produce true works of art. Always handcrafted in platinum and 18-karat gold, our custom designs feature only the very finest diamonds and colored gemstones.

"We acquire from private sellers all the time," Inga, Director of Design, explains. "And sometimes you have a safe full of odds and ends that you need to do something with." That's where the creative gene takes flight. "I was playing with some of the diamonds that we had and it just felt like a cluster ring was in order." The modern stylized-flower motif is an updated treatment of a very classic form. Under Inga's inspiration, it feels completely fresh again. "I think it's funny that that piece has received so many compliments."
