It is no secret that black watches are taking wrists by storm this year. Thanks to the stealth look of black, more and more watch brands are using a variety of procedures and processes to turn their ceramic, titanium, steel and even gold watches black. Audemars Piguet does it beautifully in the new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Black Ceramic watch. The entire case and bracelet are created in matte black brushed ceramic — a feat that was perfected after more than 600 hours of research and development.
Because ceramic material is an ultra-hard compound that is difficult to manipulate, the brand's designers faced the difficult task of executing the exact brushed look they had envisioned for the case. Once that was accomplished, Audemars Piguet could have rested on its laurels, but it didn't. The brand insisted on creating the bracelet in ceramic, as well — a highly labor intensive project. According to the brand, it takes about 30 hours to machine, polish and assemble a single ceramic bracelet, while the same bracelet in stainless steel takes about six hours to complete.
The new 41mm watch is powered by the brand's self-winding Caliber 5134, with day, date, month, astronomical moon, leap year and week displayed on the “Grande Tapisserie” dial. We invite you to stop in any time to see our selection of Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watches.
