A Wealth of Independents

Coveted Models from Independent Brands Feature in the Latest Pre-Owned Watch Offerings at Stephen Silver

We are all too keenly aware that the extremely limited production at the independent watch companies in which we have long specialized has made acquiring one of these timepieces more difficult than it has been in the past. But thanks to diligent sourcing, Stephen Silver is proud to offer an enhanced selection of pre-owned timepieces to begin your exploration of this part of the craft, or to fill out your existing collection. In this latest tranche of independent watches, we have concentrated on brands that have never been offered as new products in our store. As you will find, these are not watches from several seasons ago, but highly current product representing the latest direction at these brands.

H Moser & Cie Streamliner Tourbillon Rainbow Vantablack

H. Moser is a company we have long admired both for their technical proficiency and the increasingly vibrant and forward-looking design. These qualities are perfectly represented in the Streamliner model, one of the most original and modern-looking integrated bracelet sports watches introduced in the last decade. Our Streamliner Tourbillon Rainbow Vantablack was introduced in 2022 and may be the boldest of the lot. The graduated colored sapphires definitely comprise the most eye-catching bezel in watchmaking, and they could not be set off in a more dramatic fashion by the Vantablack coating on the dial, which absorbs more light than any other black treatment. This is a solar eclipse, set in an ultrachic red gold case.

H Moser & Cie Heritage Dual Time

While the style of the Arabic numerals and the welded lugs suggest a watch H Moser might have manufactured in the early 20th century, the brand’s brilliant touch with coloration makes this a piece that is thoroughly up to date. The burgundy dial, set off with Moser’s signature “fumé” gradient around the periphery, could not be a richer color. The watch has been paired with an electric violet crocodile strap. It is an impeccably composed palate with a subtle second time zone indicator that will be equally at home from vacation spot to wine cave.

Czapek Place Vendome Tourbillon Suspendu & "Ici Et Ailleurs"

Although less than a decade old, independent Swiss brand Czapek & Cie. has already created a distinctive identity for itself with an innovative combination of classical watchmaking elements. Observe the components of the Place Vendome Tourbillon Suspendu & "Ici Et Ailleurs": dial in Grand Feu enamel; meticulously finished second timezone display with separate day/night indicator; classically constructed sixty second tourbillon. Each of these is a horological feature on their own, but together they make a balanced and very practical travel watch that commands attention for its quality.

Czapek Antarctique Rattrapante

Originally released in 2021, the Antarctique Rattrapante is a technical fascination. The idea is straightforward: tome the rattrapante, or split-seconds chronograph complication from the rear of the watch to the front, where it can be admired through an open-works dial. To do this Czapek enlisted its regular complication collaborator Chronode (run by Jean-Francois Mojon). Using select parts from a Valjoux caliber, along with a multitude of specially conceived components, Mojon completed a mono pusher split-seconds movement, the action of which, including the function of the dual column wheels can all be seen while on the wrist. The back of the watch has been freed to accommodate an automatic winding rotor, an unusual addition to this type of watch.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split-Seconds Chronograph in Platinum

One of just twenty-five pieces, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split-Seconds Chronograph was launched in 2021 to commemorate the brand’s 25th anniversary. It combines the now- widely hailed bracelet Tonda PF case design with the brand’s split-seconds chronograph movement, which was introduced 5 years previously for the brand’s 20th anniversary. This is an understated timepiece with its tone-on-tone coloration on subtle detailing. Nevertheless it is a watchmaking tour-de-force. The original and integrated (no use of modules) 5 hz chronograph movement was a heavy lift for a small brand but has proven its quality since release. The upper lattice-like bridgework in rose gold, newly redesigned for better visibility, is a hand finishing statement with rounds and interior angles that are impossible to execute by machine. For a collector interested in a superlative statement of quality, this watch will be hard to ignore.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Skeleton in Rose Gold

Parmigiani Fleurier owes much of its newfound momentum to the success of its new integrated bracelet sports watch, the Tonda PF. Like many brands before it, Parmigiani has sought to invest the model with a little horological gravitas by revealing some of the watch’s technical qualities from beneath the dial. The Tonda PF Skeleton walks a fine line between traditional skeletonization, which can create a frilly and delicate look, and open works design, which often entails wholesale and expensive modification of the movement. The brand selected a careful modification and hand-finishing of the baseplate of its renown and slender PF777 micro rotor movement, which emphasized sweeping curves reminiscent of traditional bridgework. With grey-on-grey tones contrasting with the rose gold case, the watch presents a highly modern, technical character.

Daytona, Artisans de Genève Mika Häkkinen Challenge

As many collectors are aware, there is no shortage of companies that perform aftermarket modifications of Rolex watches. None of them, however, compare to the work done by Artisans de Geneve. The workshop’s attention to detail is evident in the customization of a Rolex Daytona made to the specifications of Formula 1 driver Mika Häkkinen. Beginning with the 116520 reference in stainless steel, a grade 5 titanium bezel with an anthracite treated surface was substituted. The dial was skeletonized and sandblasted, coated anthracite treatment and decorated with a blue and orange color scheme. Special pushers and an extra flat casebook have been added.
