Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo gets a steel case, and a whole lot of new appeal
By James Malcomson
In just over six years, Bulgari has identified its now well-known Octo Finissimo model with both record-breaking technical qualities as well as envelope-pushing design. Now with only the slightest adjustments, Bulgari has poised the model to be a strong contender in what has become the most popular of categories: the everyday-wearable sports watch.
Octo Finissimo Steel combines the brand’s record-setting ultrathin automatic movement with a slightly thicker (water resistant to 100 meters) case, mounted on the model’s finely linked bracelet. The choice of steel is more than mere utilitarianism. Bulgari has used the material in contrasting finishes—satin with subtle areas of high polish—to create complex plays of light.
“It’s been fascinating to watch this model develop,” observes Jared Silver who curates the watch offerings at Stephen Silver. “The design works perfectly as an open works complicated piece, or as a fashion forward watch you’d wear to a club. In steel you can wear it just about everywhere, and I really believe it is taking its place with the most sought after luxury watches on the market.”
Octo Finissimo Steel is available with either a deep black or a rich blue dial, and is attractively priced at $12,000. It has just arrived in the store and will be available for private, open air viewings.
