BVLGARI highlights our desire to travel with its new Octo Roma Worldtimer
While the ability to travel may only be returning to us in fits and starts, this has not prevented Bulgari from creating a watch for the days when travel resumes its former ease. The new Octo Roma Worldtimer has been designed with the same spirit and functionality as the earliest examples of the complication, which, when they appeared in the 1930s, carried all the romance of the golden age of travel. The dial, with its two moveable discs, not only allows you to see the time in all 24 zones at a glance, it provides the luxury of dialing up your current location with a twist of the crown. The worldtimer somehow captures the ease of moving about the globe, the reason it is considered a truly modern complication.
To ensure optimum functionality and svelte dimensions, Bulgari opted to develop an entirely new integrated movement rather than merely layering the complication on top an existing caliber. The new movement was developed and produced in the company’s fine watchmaking facility in Le Sentier where Bulgari assembles its high complication and ultra-thin models. Housed in Bulgari’s Octo Roma case, a version of the Gerald Genta’s Octo design that emphasizes the round bezel, the new Worldtimer is available in brushed stainless steel on a bracelet or scratch-resistant black DLC with a strap. Both versions retail for $8,350.
Setting the watch is simple: merely move your current time zone on the outer ring to the twelve o’clock position; align the 24-hour scale on the inner ring and you are ready to travel. The cities printed on the outer ring are the usual selection in such watches with a pair of notable exceptions: central Europe is naturally represented by Rome, and St. Barths has been picked for the Caribbean by virtue of the Bulgari boutique located there. Travelers to the region will surely not complain.
