A Different Shade of Black

Urwerk delivers its UR-220 “All Black,” a solid step in its design lineage

by James Malcolmson

After the successful—and brief— launch of the new UR-220 Carbon (the 25 pieces were snapped up in days) Urwerk has announced a new version of the new model in black pvd-coated steel and titanium. The new UR-220 All Black adds a shiny, high-polished look to the model that accentuates its interesting and aggressive lines.

The UR-220 possesses the most technically advanced of Urwerk’s hallmark “wandering hours” displays, and marks a continuation of the development initiated in the UR-210. The three-dimensional satellites rotate at the change of the hour and pick up the minutes indicator for its trip down the linear display. At the end of the hour the indicator dramatically snaps back in a retrograde motion to pick up the next satellite, and has been painstakingly lightened to optimize this action.

The UR-220 also features the return of the brand’s famous “oil change” function, a small display that tracks the time until your next recommended service for the timepiece. As with many of the brand’s innovations, the idea is to make the watch a more interactive and immersive part of the wearer’s life.

The limited edition of 25 pieces retails for $145,000 and will be produced through 2021. Interest parties are invited to contact us to find out when a piece in the North American allocation becomes available.
