During the early NATO era, Panerai was looking for a successor to its long-running pocket watch movements. In the interest of minimizing wear on the winding stem and water seals, Panerai decided to use the Angelus SF 240 eight day clock movement. With the new movement and a new case, an iconic watch was born. The PAM 203 was made in a limited production of 150 pieces, released over a 3 year period, and Panerai spent two years upgrading the Angelus movement to make it as efficient and accurate as possible. This timepiece is considered one of the most collectible of all modern Panerai watches and is rarely available on the second-hand market.
