Audemars Piguet Foundation Protects The Environment

Today marks World Oceans Day, which has been celebrated unofficially since its inception in 1992, when objectives were set into place to globally celebrate our waters. In 2008, World Oceans Day was officially recognized by the United Nations. Events focus on cleaning up beaches, working at aquariums and getting involved in charitable causes.

Additionally, certain watch brands support ocean conservation programs and help to raise awareness. Many even create water watches wherein a portion of their proceeds goes to help the oceans or different organizations.

Audemars Piguet, via the Audemars Piguet Foundation, works toward sustainability, ecosystem restoration and reforestation. As part of its Senegal: Restoring the Mangrove project, which it entered into at the request of the “Association of Fshermen and Fish Merchants of Balantacounda,” the Foundation financed the replanting of mangroves in the Casamance River in order to restore the piscicultural fauna.

Also financed by the Foundation, the “Selva Viva” sails across the Peruvian Amazon to assist the Indians who have settled along the river and who are the greatest defenders of the Amazon rainforest. The French NGO ARUTAM arranged for the ship to be constructed by unemployed people in Iquitos using traditional techniques. The boat carries out scientific missions to review the plants used for traditional medicine, allows exchanges between Indian villages and, several months per year, hosts solidarity tourist trips that finance the vessel’s activities.
